Episode 39: VANYFOX
Rave to the Grave podcast with DJ/producer Vanyfox, who started producing at 12, influenced by his family's Congolese and Angolan music, his older brother’s love for Afrohouse and kuduro dancing, and hip-hop artists like Pharrell, Dr Dre and Nipsey Hussle. Upon moving to Lisbon’s Quinto do Mocho neighborhood, he met producers like Marfox and Danifox and began making batida, Lisbon’s homegrown Afro-Latin electronic dance music. Calling in from France, where he’s lived since age 15, Vany talks about his inspirations and production process, the genres that have influenced batida, his new EP Melodias E Choros and some of his favorite DJ travels, including trips to Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and Zanzibar.
